The Bigger Picture: SPW Tag Team Division

Since October 2009 Steeltown Pro Wrestling has been promoting qualifier matches for a 6-way tag team final to decide the inaugural SPW Tag Team Champion.  So far four teams have qualified and two spots still remain.  Since the road to the Tag Team Titles began teams have been ranked on a first come first service basis meaning that the first team to qualify is ranked number one.

Billy Blaze & La Sombra

The first team to qualify for the finals is already in jeopardy.  Shortly after their win La Sombra suffered the final blows to an already damaged knee and was sent for surgery.  He is currently on the injured list and has been on the slow road to recovery attending regular sessions at a rehab clinic.  It would seem that if he is not ready to compete in the finals that Billy Blaze would get to choose a new partner thought this has yet to be confirmed.  For now, Billy Blaze and La Sombra are ranked #1.

BIG BRIAN RICH INC. (BIG BRIAN RICH and DOOM)

The second team to qualify is also in question.  BIG BRIAN RICH has begun to make outlandish demands to SPW Officials now that DOOM is the SPW Provincial Champion and both men have qualified for the finals, frustrating SPW President Dale Barnett who is doing all he can to keep every satisfied.  While RICH has always been the mouthpiece for his group DOOM and Mr. Nasty have been the muscle and power, the ones that get the job done.  With Mr. Nasty at their side, they could be one outside interference away from becoming champions!

Bad to the Bone (Big Cliff Corleone and Reggie Gallagher)

Bad to the Bone made their SPW debuts late in the summer of 2009 declaring their intentions to be the most dominant team in the promotion.  Thus far they have proven that they are a force to be reckoned with becoming the third team to qualify for the finals.  Possessing both size and skill with several years of experience in both singles and tag team competition they may be the team to beat in the division.  They continue to rack up wins, reaffirming their intentions to be the first ever SPW Tag Team Champions.

“Wild Child” Jerin Rose and Alex Shaver

The latest team to qualify was the newly formed team of Jerin Rose and Alex Shaver.  Both men have struck up a friendship and Rose has taken Shaver under his wing.  Since that time Shaver has been seen using plenty of new, high risk offence that has taken their competition by surprise.  Jerin Rose is no stranger to wrestling gold as the current TRCW Heavyweight Champion.

Family of Darkness

Rob Stardom, Syko and Marius are one of the most cohesive units in SPW always working together towards the same cause.  They ensure that each is successful in their singles matches and we’ve seen Marius and Stardom form a successful tag team in the past.  They haven’t declared their intention to enter the Tag Team Title finals yet but with two places still remaining never say never.  Any combination of the three could be prove to be lethal.

Team 24/7

Nacho Slurpee and Super Big Gulp aren’t exactly known for their winning ways.  They have made it known that they want in the SPW Tag Team Title finals but the oft hard to get victory stands in their way.  Some even question whether they deserve the opportunity to qualify.  Who knows, they could become “Team Upset” if given the chance which would certainly surprise anyone and everyone in the wrestling world.

Hoodwinked

Possibly the worst team in SPW, The Hood and The Hoodlum have yet to get a win in either tag team or singles wrestling.  It would be a stretch to predict them becoming the first SPW Tag Team Champions, let alone qualify to enter the finals.  I wouldn’t put my money down on these two!

Outside Influences

SPW has hosted several teams from other areas of North America over the years including Camikazee & Scotty Putty, The Submission Squad, Big Jess & Heavy Metal and most recently the Brothers in Blood.  Any one of these teams or others could declare their intentions and request a qualifying match to SPW Officials.

With two places still remaining in the finals the SPW Tag Team Division is still wide open for the taking!  Whoever become the first champions already have an established field of competition to defend against.  The SPW Tag Team Division may easily become the most competitive division in SPW throughout 2010.
