the fallout: 2nd anniversary show
SPW celebrated its 2nd Anniversary Show this past Saturday at the Selkirk Memorial Hall. The show features many memorable moments including fire, weapons, wrestling legends and several title changes. How will these events affect Steeltown Pro moving forward?
Weapon and the Wound
Wildman Firpo did the unthinkable when he blew fire into Bobby Sharp’s face to get the win. While everyone recognizes that the Wildman is just that, does he gain a psychological advantage by inciting fear in his opponents with the introduction of fire spitting as an offensive mood? Luckily Sharp suffered minor burns and will be okay the fact remains that fire and Wildman Firpo are akin: completely unpredictable!
Ike Idol seemed to have problems putting Johnny Falcon away. He went so far as to use a chair to try and knock the man out but just couldn’t get it done. This isn’t the first time Idol brings a chair into play.
Raven’s Rules were in effect when Raven and Chi Chi Cruz teamed up to take on the Family of Darkness (Stardom and Marius). Much to their dismay the Family of Darkness were forced to do battle against two legends with no rules to bend or break to work to their advantage. Some suspected Raven may turn on his partner but that was not the case as the two used chairs to their advantage before putting the Family of Darkness away with tandem DDTs
Your new champions are…
As previously mentioned Ike Idol was unable to put Johnny Falcon away. With a quick distraction by Zack Mercury, Falcon was able to score an upset victory and become the new TRCW Heavyweight Champion. As a new member of the SPW roster this is a huge accomplishment for Johhny Falcon as he olds a title with a long and proud lineage. For Ike Idol this means revenge is a two-fold affair.
After months and month the long journey came to an end as SPW crowned its first ever SPW Tag Team Champions. Everything seemed to point to Bad to the Bone winning the titles but Jerin Rose and Alex Shaver simply wouldn’t give up. Rose and Shaver were finally able to pick up the win and the crowd gave them a standing ovation as they were presented with the new titles. Bad to the Bone however tore it up backstage in anger in disappointment.
Matt Fairlane was granted a re-match against Cutting Edge Wrestling Inter-cities Champion Big Jess. While unable to defeat Big Jess in Alberta Fairlane was on home turf and did not disappoint. Fairlane is now the reigning CEW Inter-cities Champion, a title that, much like the TRCW title, has a long and storied history having been defended across the country.
Potential match ups
Ike Idol will definitely be looking for revenge both on Johnny Falcon for winning the TRCW Title and on Zack Mercury for costing him the TRCW Title. Mercury gained a level of revenge for Idol’s attack on December 26th and a loss on February 27th so you can expect these two heavyweights to lock horns. One would also expect for Ike Idol to demand a re-match for the title. It seems like Ike Idol will have his hands full for the time being.
Bad to the Bone are angry and rightfully so. They were the dominant team of the tag team division but came up short from winning the titles to a team they view as inferior. While the fans would disagree with Bad to the Bone they do hold a size and experience advantage over Rose and Shaver. As #1 contenders in the tag team division, it stands to reason that Bad to the Bone be getting a title shot very soon.
The Provincial Title division has produced many challengers to Jay Lanza’s title. La Sombra has returned and you can bet he’ll be looking for a title shot, Billy Blaze is the #1 contender and Jay Beaver has made it clear that he wants the title. Lanza’s schedule as champion may be a busy one in the coming weeks.
Let’s not forget the man who took out La Sombra late last year, Reggie Gallagher. Gallagher is the man responsible for finishing off La Sombra’s knee, an attack that led to serious reconstructive surgery. La Sombra has not forgotten and will certainly be looking for retribution. Jay Beaver on the other hand is angry that he lost an impromptu match to a returning La Sombra and is also looking for retribution!
The Family of Darkness hate Chi Chi Cruz that much we know. After losing to he and Raven what can we expect from Rob Stardom and Marius? They are not known to go quietly into the night and I would expect that Cruz will have to watch his back as these two lurk in the shadows plotting their revenge.
Final Thoughts
The SPW 2nd Anniversary Show may serve as a catalyst to several future match-ups as Steeltown Pro prepares to hit the road again in May. We’ll have a better picture of the state of SPW as we approach Mayhem in Morden on May 14. Revenge and championships are weighing heavy on several roster members as they look to climb the mountain to be the best of the pack. The question is: Who will rise and who will fall?
