shaver and rose going strong
Alex Shaver and Jerin Rose became the inaugural SPW Tag Team Champions on April 17, 2010 when they defeated 5 other teams in the first ever SPW Tag Team Steeltown Showdown. They formed their team at the start of the year and have been on top of the tag team division ever since.
More than 3 months into their title reign, they’ve defeated a number of teams including Bad to the Bone, Sydney Manson & The Hood, Zack Mercury & Shadow Xtreme, TJ Bratt & TLC, Gibby Guerreo & Billy Blaze, The Hoodlum & Spanky, Wildman Firpo & The Epic, DOOM & Mr. Nasty, Vince Austin & Heavy Metal, Sydney Manson & The Hoodlum, TLC & The Epic and most recently TJ Bratt & Rob Stardom.
With an impressive streak of title defences, SPW officials will be forced to recruit new teams or allow wrestlers to form new teams in an effort to create more competition for the SPW Tag Team Titles. It should also be noted that each team so far has only received one title shot which leads us to believe they will be seeking re-matches in the near future. However some individuals have had multiple opportunities with a variety of partners.
Who will step up to the plate?
The Epic is an avid tag team wrestler having held titles with both Danny Duggan and Kevy Chevy in recent years. Upon his SPW return he swore that he would become Tag Team Champion and that he could do it with any partner of his choosing. His first attempt with Wildman Firpo came up short. He formed a much better team when he recruited Mr. TLC Tommy Lee Curtis but was still unable to capture the gold. Are he and TLC training for a re-match or has The Epic begun a search for a new partner?
After coming up short with The Epic, TLC wasted no time recruiting veteran TJ Bratt to challenge the champions. A former multiple time champion in singles and tag competition Bratt brought years of experience to the team. Bratt and TLC found out, in short order, what heart and determination was all about when they were unable to Alex Shaver away for good.
Failing with TLC, TJ Bratt recruited an old friend in Rob Stardom. Years of wrestling experience, miles travelled together on the road, Bratt and Stardom presented Shaver and Rose their greatest challenge today. Still, Bratt and Stardom were unable to get deuce on Shaver or Rose. Frustration and impatience settling in Shaver and Rose scored an upset and retains the titles one more time.
Sydney Manson and Hoodwinked have formed various teams between the three of them and none of the combination proved to be a viable threat to Rose and Shavers tag team gold. Perhaps Team 24/7 would have better luck?
In the weeks leading up to the Tag Team Title finals Bad to the Bone scored a pair of victories over Shaver and Rose but lost in the finals. With video proof that they can defeat the champions Bad to the Bone have to be considered when deciding new challengers. With Reggie Gallagher’s attention currently focused on La Sombra, however, is this team prepared to challenge for the gold?
Maybe SPW officials plan to bring back past teams to serve as challengers such as Danny Duggan & Bobby Fox, The Submission Squad, The Heavy Metal Experience Featuring the Big Jess Band or even Camikazee & Scotty Putty; or perhaps the return of Strike Force (Rick Martel and Tito Santana) or The Bushwhackers?!?
Whatever the SPW officials have in mind it is no secret that Alex Shaver and Jerin Rose have proved themselves as the leaders of the tag team division. The question now is who will present them with the biggest challenge? Who can dethrone Alex Shaver and Jerin Rose?
