the buzz by john henry (08/17/10)
Holly cow! That’s what comes to mind when thinking about this weekends double TV taping in Arborg and Selkirk. WWE Legend Bushwhacker Luke, two huge main events, dozens of talent signed from across North America, title matches and women’s wrestling added as a special attraction for the weekend. This may be the biggest most loaded weekend of SPW wrestling that we’ve ever done and I couldn’t think of a better way to wrap it up then the annual Red River Rumble!
The weekend starts off in Arborg, Manitoba on Friday August 20th. All signs point to having every champion on hand (SPW, TRCW, CEW), several women’s wrestling matches, all the top SPW stars as well as Bushwhack Luke challenging Syko for the SPW Provincial Title in the Main Event!
The next night on Saturday August 21st we do it all again with the third annual Red River Rumble outdoors at the Selkirk Water Front (Rain location: Selkirk Memorial Hall). This show is being brought to you by the great City of Selkirk and is free of charge!
The 2008 edition of the Red River Rumble saw the last SPW appearance by Jon Cutler before leaving for the WWE, the debut of 2-time ROH World Champion Austin Aries and Matt Fairlane winning the first ever Red River Rumble to qualify for the SPW Heavyweight Title tournament.
In 2009, the second annual Red River Rumble, winner Rob Stardom was named #1 contender to Matt Fairlane’s SPW Heavyweight Title. It also saw the singles wrestling debut of Chi Chi Cruz as well as the debuts of Big Cliff and Reggie Gallagher. Red River Rumble 2009 kicked off one hell of a rivalry between Rob Stardom and Chi Chi Cruz that recently ended at Hurts So Good in June.
The 2010 edition is set to feature WWE Legend Bushwhacker Luke, a Woman’s Battle Royal, wrestlers from Alberta and the Midwest U.S., Canadian wrestling icons such as Chi Chi Cruz and Bobby Jay, all the recognized champions and of course the huge 30+ man Red River Rumble for a shot at the SPW Heavyweight Title.
This weekend is going to be wrestling, wrestling, wrestling and then some more wrestling and I can’t wait! Arborg and Selkirk are great towns and this pair of shows puts it all over the top. It’s going to be a lot of work but the dividends will be well worth the effort.
Until next time, that’s the buzz.
