the buzz by john henry (09/02/10)
A few changes were made to the website this week. Done away is the secondary menus option off to the left. It has been replaced with an enlarged video screen for future SPW videos with the advertising for the next upcoming event off to the right. A secondary video will be featured near the bottom of the page where the SPW iTV episodes were normally posted. The change was simple and gives the site a more concise look.
New rankings have been released based on the results of the last few events. The rankings are being rebooted in a sense starting with this week. Future rankings are based on popularity, wins, losses and contender matches. From now on the champion is ranked #1, the undisputed leader of his respective division. On that note, Matt Fairlane is the official #1 Contender having won the third annual Red River Rumble.
The history section was also updated. The title histories have been updated to reflect recent title changes. The same was done to the awards section. Results have also been updated with all the recent 2010 results.
Several videos are now in production so expect some DVD releases in the coming months as well as updates regarding future SPW TV episodes which are still being edited. SPW has started to use a green screen in pre-production so expect the episodes to be more graphical in nature. SPW taped content with the help of a professional producer/director for TV episodes on June 26th, August 20th and August 21st. More content will be taped on September 18th at Battle for the Belt.
Speaking of Battle for the Belt we’ve already got some great sponsors on board. SPW President Dale Barnett is hard at work signing talent and matches for the event. We should have more over the next two weeks. I wonder if Matt Fairlane will challenge Marius for the SPW Heavyweight having won the Red River Rumble in August. As SPW Heavyweight Champion, Marius has kept a busy schedule wrestling for various promoters throughout the western prairies in 2010. While Fairlane lost the CEW Inter-Cities title he has told friends and family that his concentration is set on regaining the SPW Heavyweight Title.
Bushwhacker Luke has been touring eastern Canada. The man is a workhorse and SPW hopes to have him back in the near future. He is a great addition to any roster, especially with such young talent needing guidance on the independent wrestling scene.
Nothing is set in stone just yet but I expect Steeltown Pro Wrestling to be at the Selkirk Memorial Hall in October, November and December to finish out 2010. We are also working on some live events in different areas of Manitoba. We’ll keep you informed!
Japanese and Mexican wrestling legend Leatherface recently contacted SPW officials. I’m not really sure the nature of the conversation he had with Dale Barnett but I will say the hardcore legend would be an interesting addition to the roster if he were to ever sign on with Steeltown Pro. Leatherface and Syko would make a killer tandem in my opinion.
Until next time, that’s the buzz.
