history of the CEW Inter-Cities Title

Much like the TRCW Heavyweight Title, the Cutting Edge Wrestling Inter-Cities Championship has a long and storied history with over 10 years of existence.

Over the last decade the title has travelled across Canada being defended in Newfoundland, Quebec, Manitoba and Alberta.  Former CEW Inter-Cities Champions include TNT, Magnus, Chris Payne, Heavy Metal and the internationally travelled Mentallo!  The current champion, Big Jess, has defended the title across the province of Alberta.

The title was first recognized by its home promotion Cutting Edge Wrestling based out of Newfoundland.  Its first champion TNT would defend the title all over the Maritimes as well as in Northern Championship Wrestling based in Quebec.  Former champion Mentallo went on to work for Harely Race’s World League Wrestling, CMLL in Mexico and SMASH in Japan.  Over the years the title made its way out west where it would be defended all over Alberta and recognized as an official title by Real Canadian Wrestling where Big Jess reigns as the current CEW champion.

On January 30th SPW’s Matt Fairlane challenged Big Jess for the title in Gibbons, Alberta.  Coming close to winning the title, Matt Richards, a man from Matt Fairlane’s past made his presence known costing Fairlane the match and a chance to claim the title.

After winning a battle royal for a shot at the title on March 20th in Winnipeg, Manitoba a re-match has been signed!  On April 17, 2010 at the Selkirk Memorial Hall during SPW’s 2nd Anniversary Show Matt Fairlane will challenge Big Jess for the CEW Inter-Cities Title in a battle of Edmonton, Alberta Vs Selkirk, Manitoba!
