Does SPW sanction the CEW Inter-cities Title?
On April 17, 2010 Matt Fairlane defeated Big Jess to become the CEW Inter-cities Champion. The title has been recognized across the country by countless promotions with a 10+ year history. With Matt Fairlane as the reigning champion many insiders wonder if Steeltown Pro Wrestling will recognize the title much as it has the TRCW Heavyweight Title.
SPW President Dale Barnett gave his thoughts on the subject:
“The CEW title carries a strong lineage from its beginnings in Newfoundland more than 10 years ago. That title has been defended and recognized in the Maritimes, Quebec, Alberta and Manitoba. As of April 17th Matt Fairlane became the champion and as I understand it, fully intends to defend the title actively.
Much as we have recognized the great lineage of the TRCW title, SPW will recognize the CEW Inter-cities Title. Surely Matt Fairlane will make a great champion and represent the title’s history with pride and honour as he did with the SPW Heavyweight Title for over a year.
SPW officials have already begun talks with Fairlane and CEW representative regarding future challengers to the championship. As soon as we know more we’ll let the fans of SPW (and CEW) know!”
CEW Inter-cities Champion Matt Fairlane shared his thoughts on winning the title:
“I should have won the title back in January but unfortunately I wasn’t able to get it done. I accepted that and got a second chance at the title and this time I succeeded. It was great to win the title in my hometown. This title has so much history and has been defended across the country. You can bet that I’m ready to defend this title against all comers including scum bags like Rob Stardom, Marius or Ike Idol. I’ve always been a fighting champion and I’m going to prove it in the ring!”
Steeltownprowrestling.ca will keep you posted on Matt Fairlane’s first title defence which could happen as early as Friday May 14th in Morden, SPW’s next live event!
