the rundown - 2nd anniversary show

SPW returns to the Selkirk Memorial Hall this Saturday April 17th to celebrate the second anniversary of its first live event!  There have been many memorable SPW moments in Selkirk and this show is sure to add to that growing legacy!

Main Event: Raven & Chi Chi Cruz Vs Family of Darkness (Rob Stardom & Marius)

Between Chi Chi Cruz and Raven there is 50 years of wrestling experience in the main event, which accounts for a lot of the tricks of the trade.  It makes you wonder if Stardom and Marius may be in over their head in this one because there was no way to know that Cruz would pull out an ace like Raven.

That being said the Family of Darkness may have an ace of their own.  Will Syko make his SPW return to make it a 3 on 2?  Will they go out and get some henchmen on there side such as DOOM and Mr. Nasty?  With a few months to plan ahead you can’t expect Stardom or Marius to play fair because they never do even when the odds are stacked in their favour.  This match could turn into a bloody affair, a pier six brawl as they say.

CEW Intercities Title: Matt Fairlane Vs Big Jess (c)

Big Jess has reigned supreme in Alberta as the Cutting Edge Wrestling Intercities Title, a championship with a long and rich history spanning the entire country for more than a decade.  In January Fairlane challenged him for the title and nearly had it won until outside interference cost Fairlane the match.

After months of waiting Matt Fairlane earned a re-match winning a battle royal at Winnipeg Warfare 2010.  In his hometown, Fairlane has a clear home turf advantage.  Big Jess, however, is no stranger to Steeltown Pro Wrestling having wrestled on several SPW shows.  He knows what he’s getting into and has told those close to him he has been in contact with several of Matt Fairlane’s past opponents to get an inside track.  This should be a classic heavyweight encounter and if Fairlane were to win, would serve as a great story for SPW’s 2nd birthday.

SPW Tag Team Titles: 6-Way Tag Team Steeltown Showdown

A lot has been said about this match already with the course of the journey beginning way back in October 2009.  With a long road behind them 6 teams will do battle ro decide who will be bestowed the honour of being the first ever SPW Tag Team Champions.

Two teams are considered odds on favourites: Alex Shaver & Jerin Rose and Bad to the Bone (Reggie Gallagher and Big Cliff Corleone).  These two teams have the most matches under their belts and have collided many times exchanging wins and losses.

DOOM and Mr. Nasty are going in with the size advantage as the biggest team.  Zack Mercury and Shadow Xtreme as well as Billy Blaze & Gibby Guerrero have limited experience as teams but have shown a lot of guts of the last few months.  Billy Blaze is a top contender to the Provincial Title, Shadow Xtreme has taken Ike Idol to the limit, Mercury looks to win the TRCW Title in the near future and Guerrero came close to becoming SPW Heavyweight Champion earlier this year.

A sixth mystery team has been added to the mix so that may impact the outcome of this match completely depending who that team may be.  One thing is guaranteed, on April 17th two men will walk as the first ever SPW Tag Team Champions while 10 others will be left out in the cold.

TRCW Heavyweight Title: Johnny Falcon Vs “Iron” Ike Idol (c)

Johnny Falcon debuted for SPW a little over one month ago and has impressed several SPW officials with his two matches against Rob Stardom.  While Ike Idol dispatched challengers such as Shadow Xtreme, Zack Mercury and Jerin Rose, SPW officials looked for a new challenger to take Idol for the TRCW title.

Showing plenty of heart and winning over the crowd, Falcon was chosen as Ike Idol’s latest challenger.  Johnny Falcon, while new to the wrestling game, was trained by Lance Storm in Calgary.  Ike Idol is a veteran heavyweight with a passion for pain and has shown that his momentum is ever increasing.

For Falcon this could be the opportunity of a lifetime.  For Idol this could be just another notch on his belt…then again it could be the upset that would derail his current streak of dominance.  If Falcon wants that fairytale ending, he’ll have to let it all hang out lest he become another body left in Ike Idol’s dust.

SPW Provincial Title: "Beautiful" Bobby Jay Vs Jay Lanza (c)

SPW’s 2008 Wrestler of the Year was given a Heavyweight Title match at the first anniversary show.  One year later Bobby Jay is back in SPW and has been granted a Provincial Title match against the fan favorite Jay Lanza.

With more than 20 years in the business Bobby Jay has the experience needed to dethrone Lanza but Lanza has an intangible…the support of Selkirk wrestling fans.  Since winning the title Lanza has upped his game and proven he is a deserving champion.  A graduate of the SPW Training Academy he never ceases to learn and improve.

Bobby Jay on the other hand has been criss crossing the country appearing as a special guest at UFC Pay-Per-Views and even Wrestlemania.  Claiming a close relationship with Dana White and Vince McMahon, Jay has also scored major wins over WWE legends such as Bushwacker Luke.  It has been many years since he last held wrestling gold and that could all change this Saturday.  For Lanza this would be a major victory!

Young Guns Battle Royal
: Winner Receives $1000 Cash Prize

SPW is full of up and comers and they all get a chance to showcase themselves in the Young Guns Battle Royal.  The winner received $1000 and you can bet will get the attention of SPW officials that could lead to a future title shot.  This match is set to include SPW Training Academy graduates and students and well as rookies from all over the territory.

Wildman Firpo Vs Heavy Metal

The Wildman debuted for SPW during the fall of 2009 while Heavy Metal first appeared for SPW during the fall of 2008!  In fact Heavy Metal challenged Marius in Gibbons, Alberta for the SPW Heavyweight Title in January of this year.  This is a first time match-up that could impact the SPW Provincial Title rankings!

Special announcement from 2-time SPW Provincial Champion La Sombra

La Sombra is said to announce his return to active competition after recovering from knee surgery.  He definitely has some scores to settle such as getting back in the hunt for the SPW Provincial Title and getting revenge on Reggie Gallagher, the men who put the final nail in the coffin regarding his nagging knee injury.  If nothing else this is sure to be a heartfelt speech but one of SPW’s biggest fan favorites
