Will Marius break Fairlane’s record?

Matt Fairlane was SPW Heavyweight Champion for 378 straight days; a record that will stand for the foreseeable future.  Marius on the other hand is currently in his second reign having lost the title to Chi Chi Cruz for seven days.  With that in mind, Marius has been SPW Heavyweight Champion for a total of 312 days (as of August 25th).

Considering that the next SPW event will not take place until September 18th that guarantees that Marius will have reigned as champion for at least 335 days, forty days short of Fairlane’s record.

In a twist of irony, Marius would break Fairlane’s total days as champion on October 31, 2010…Halloween!  What would be more fitting than to celebrate 379 total days as SPW Heavyweight Champion on Halloween?  It makes you wonder what kind of party the Family of Darkness would throw, a ghoulish one to be sure.

It won’t be easy to retain that title with several wrestlers hot on his trail including Chi Chi Cruz, Matt Fairlane, Ike Idol, Zack Mercury, La Sombra and whoever wins the Red River Rumble.  That doesn’t include any out of province or out of country title defences that may occur.

Fairlane will go down (at least for now) as the longest reigning champion when discussing uniterupted title reigns.  Marius may very well go down (again, at least for now) as the man with the most total days as champion and it may happen as early as October 31st.  We all know Marius would relish this moment, knowing that it would trump one of Fairlane’s great accomplishments.

Fairlane and Marius…total opposites that have much more in common than meets the eye.  Over a period of two and half years they have become the foundation on which the SPW Heavvyweight Title was built.  All future champions will be measured against Matt Fairlane and Marius.

What will it be, 378 days or 379 days (and counting?)?  Only time will tell.
