And the award goes to…

Movies have the Oscars, music has the Grammies, theatre has the Tony awards and the WWE has the Slammies.  While SPW annually recognizes the SPW Wrestler of the Year there isn’t really a large scale of categories each year.  If we did, though, here is a list of some of the awards we could give out and who would win them as decided by the staff here in the SPW office.  Please note that these aren’t official in any way.

Tag Team of the Year: S ‘n R

Jerin Rose took Alex Shaver under his wing in early 2010 and the two qualified for the SPW Tag Team Title finals at the 2nd Anniversary Show.  Against the odds they faced off against 5 other teams and became the inaugural SPW Tag Team Champion.  They followed their victory up with a series of title defenses across the province proving that they were indeed the team to beat in the tag team division.

Rookie of the Year: Mike Mission

A student of the SPW Training Academy, Mike Mission doesn’t have many victories just yet but he’s proven to be a tenacious young man with a plenty of heart.  He’s been in the ring with the likes of SYKO, Ike Idol and Vance Nevada and never backs down.  In his first year he’s wrestled all over the province and has appeared on SPW SHOWDOWN.  With a bright future ahead, Mike Mission was definitely the top of his class.

Comeback of the Year: La Sombra

La Sombra ended 2009 in a hospital bed after undergoing reconstructive knee surgery.  By early spring he was in the gym, rehabbing his injury and getting back into ring shape preparing for a comeback.  His return was made official at the 2nd Anniversary Show where he defeated James Beaver.  Since that time he’s gone on to have competitive matches with Reggie Gallagher, Marius and Rob Stardom.   Big things await La Sombra in 2011.

Best Hair: Reggie Gallagher

Okay, this was more of a tongue in cheek award but somehow everyone was unanimous in their decision.

Woman of the Year: Mystik Sexton

Mystik made her debut when SPW launched their SHOWDOWN series.  She fought a series of matches against Ann Brookstone and, in the end, came out the winner proving that she was the top female athlete in SPW.  A lot of women have come and gone over the years by Mystik was definitely the 2010 Woman of the Year.

Feud of the Year: Rob Stardom Vs Chi Chi Cruz

This was an easy choice.  Aside from all the violence and blood shed, this feud had major affects on SPW.  For one it caused two SPW Heavyweight title changes, secondly it created several main events from single and tag team matches to 6-man and 8-man tag team matches and third it brought about the SPW debut of former ECW and NWA-TNA World Champion RAVEN for the 2nd Anniversary Show main event.
