Raising the Stakes: The Fallout
SPW’s annual Raising the Stakes has always been one of SPW’s premier events of the year and this past Sunday certainly lived up to that reputation.
HONKY TONK MAN READY TO SHAKE, RATTLE & ROLL
The Honky Tonk Man returns to Steeltown Pro Wrestling for the Shake, Rattle & Roll tour from March 16th to March 18th. The Honky Tonk Man made his SPW debut in Selkirk in June 2011.
MR. NASTY Vs LONDON – NO RESOLUTION
Leo London was robbed from a submission victory because of a Jade Phoenix distraction. Shortly after, Mr. Nasty blinded London with a white powder followed by a Choke Slam for the win. Noticing the powder all over the ring, on London’s face and all over Mr. Nasty’s hand, the referee reversed the decision awarding the match to London. Leo London was incensed after the match and, unhappy with the tainted victory, was seen asking SPW officials for another re-match. Could a third match be in the works?
MISSION ON THE CUSP?
Mike Mission took the fight to Marius in the SPW Provincial Championship match. In the early goings he had Marius reeling after a series of slams and suplexes. Despite Marius’ relentless attack to Mission’s knee, Mission came back late in the match with suplexes, bulldogs and splashes. It looked like Mission had the match won before Marius scored a double leg takedown, pinning Mission with his feet leveraged on the top rope, barely getting the 3 count and escaping with his championship. If this match was any indication “Misfit” Mike Mission is ready to be the next SPW Provincial Champion.
TOP TAG CONTENDERS EMERGE
The newly formed team of Big Cliff Corleone and Billy Blaze, the Sons of Anarchy, were definitive fan favourites and showed excellent team work in their match against James Beaver and JJ Sanchez. With their victory SPW officials have named them top contenders to the SPW Tag Team Titles and if anyone can dethrone the dominant team of SYKO and Son of Syko it’s the Sons of Anarchy! What a heavyweight battle that match would be.
LA SOMBRA: SMALL DOG, BIG FIGHT
La Sombra continues the trend of being the smallest dog with the biggest fight, defeating the “German Juggernaut” Moses Luke in a Tables Match to retain the SPW Heavyweight Championship. Since the New Year, La Sombra has defeated SYKO, “Iron” Ike Idol in a Casket Match and Spanky in Lumberjack Weapons Match. La Sombra has wasted no time in establishing himself at the top of the SPW food chain. La Sombra is set to defend the SPW Heavyweight Championship against Kevy Chevy on March 18th.
FAMILIAR FACES RETURN
Along with Moses Luke we saw JJ Sanchez make his SPW return at Raising the Stakes pulling double duty first against rising star Jackie “Jet” Lee and again teaming with James Beaver against the Sons of Anarchy.
