The buzz by john henry (02/07)

Every Monday morning the SPW staff has a meeting to see where some of the projects are at when where we’re headed for the week.  This is often done through conference call between me, Ron McLean, Robbie Robinson, Jethro Hawg and SPW President Dale Barnett.  It’s usually a good way to get the week started as we share some stories from the weekend, have a few laughs and set out our workload for the week.  Dale Barnett is full of fire lately and we’re looking at a busy period between Raising the Stakes 2011 at the end of the month and the 3rd Anniversary Show in April.

Internally we’re discussing doing a double shot in March, likely near the end of the month.  The last time SPW promoted a double shot was our first set of SPW SHOWDOWN TV tapings in August in Arborg and Selkirk.  Those events featured wrestlers from the Newfoundland, Alberta and Minnesota and of course WWE Legend Bushwhacker Luke.

SPW Heavyweight Champion Marius is keeping busy.  Last week he was featured on the front page of the Carman Valley Leader as a tie in to SPW’s event in Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes on January 28th.  He’ll be a guest at a luncheon and question period with Manitoba premier Greg Selinger on Thursday February 10th,  he’s headed for Montreal, Quebec from February 17th to February 21st and will be wrestling in Newfoundland between March 3rd and March 7th.  I expect his next title defense will take place on February 26th at Raising the Stakes 2011.

Speaking of title defenses, the list of challengers for the SPW Heavyweight Title is growing.  Matt Fairlane and La Sombra made it clear that they are after the championship and Jerin Rose added his name to the list at the beginning of the New Year.  Ike Idol is another challenger that’s gunning for the gold and Big Cliff Corleone recently set his sights on the SPW Heavyweight Title as well.  To add to the list I would not be surprised to hear Chi Chi Cruz wanting to get back into that #1 spot.  That’s six viable challengers that are in line and any one of them have the tools to become champion.

SPW Provincial Champion Tommy Lee Curtis did a loop of shows for Real Canadian Wrestling in Alberta on the weekend of January 28th to the 30th.  That’s great news for the young grappler who has received high praise by many within the industry including SPW President Dale Barnett.  Travelling to different territories does wonders to get your name out and increase your stock as a valuable piece of talent.  I would expect Mr. TLC to defend the SPW Provincial Title at Raising the Stakes on February 26th.

SYKO left on February 4th for a 3 week tour of Tony Condello’s world famous Northern Tour.  He’ll be travelling up and down the winter roads throughout northern Manitoba and Ontario.  Joining him on the tour is SPW Training Academy graduate Shadow Xtreme who is expected to be a big fan favorite in the northern communities.  That’s great news for two SPW stars and for SPW in general!  We wish them the best of luck and safe travels.

That’s all I’ve got for you this week folks so until next time, that’s the buzz!
